About the Workshop

When the world feels heavy, it’s easy to believe something is wrong with you for feeling anxious, exhausted, or numb. In reality, your body is doing exactly what it was designed to do — responding to ongoing stress and uncertainty.

Community Calm: An Emotion Skills Lab is a two-hour, trauma-informed workshop created to help you understand and work with your nervous system rather than against it. Led by Elizabeth Hoose, Psy.D., this engaging, science-based session blends psychology, self-reflection, and community connection to help you find steadiness in a chaotic world.

Participants will learn:

  • How chronic exposure to distressing media, conflict, or world events activates the stress response

  • Why emotional overwhelm and fatigue are normal physiological reactions, not personal failures

  • Practical tools to regulate your nervous system and restore balance

  • The “Emotional Cup” model to identify your unique stress drains and emotional refills

  • How to create a personalized crisis-prevention plan to stay grounded when life gets hard

Through guided discussion and hands-on exercises, you’ll walk away with a deeper understanding of how your emotions function, evidence-based coping strategies you can use immediately, and a renewed sense of connection to yourself and others.

This workshop is ideal for anyone feeling overstimulated, depleted, or searching for practical ways to manage stress in today’s fast-moving, often overwhelming world.

At Breyta Psychological Services, our trauma-informed principles guide not only our clinical work but also our commitment to community outreach and education. We believe that being human is inherently hard — and that everyone deserves access to practical, empowering tools for emotional well-being. It’s deeply important to Dr. Hoose and the Breyta team to offer high-value, evidence-based education that makes a meaningful impact while remaining realistic, accessible, and grounded in everyday life.

This workshop represents a rare opportunity to learn directly from a doctoral-level psychologist for a nominal fee, gaining insights and strategies that are both scientifically sound and personally transformative.

Dr. Hoose is offering three separate dates for this workshop. Each date is a freestanding event.

Define Your Next Chapter with Growth & Wellness Therapy

Participating in a mental health therapy group is a powerful way to help yourself work through difficult problems and gain support for issues that may have felt isolating or overwhelming in the past. Perhaps you’re considering group therapy as a soft start to your mental health journey; or perhaps you’re using it as a tool to augment and enhance existing mental health care, such as therapy or medication management. However you choose to use group therapy, it will be a point in your life that marks a meaningful growth.

Therapy groups teach you that you are not alone; that you are stronger than you know; and teach you skills to be equipped to meet life on life’s terms so that you set goals and reach them. The benefit of working with others is that you get to hear them share their similar experiences, which can help you feel validated and less alone in your experience. Group members will also provide valuable feedback, perspective, and insight that will help you see yourself and your situation in a new light while decreasing your sense of isolation.

Our approach creates the ripples of change.
